Still Crazy, But Wear Sunscreen Anyway!

Well, the last time I posted here, I had just turned 59.  I'm now 61 and I'm still just as fascinated with Paul Simon and his style of music as I've always been.  I actually clicked on one of my old links and with some navigating on his site (which is where the link leads), I managed to listen to a whole album (Still Crazy After All These Years) and, yes, I am still crazy after all these years! LOL

Much has happened in my life since I last logged in here, but I won't be detailing it in this post tonight.  We can deal with things a little at a time.  Most recently, my husband and I celebrated our 43rd wedding anniversary March 22nd.  Forty-three years may sound like a very long time, and in some respects, I suppose it is, but when you are sharing those years with your best friend, they pass far too quickly.  As young 20-somethings, we don't have any idea how precious each day is.  Now that I've reached what are often referred to as "golden years" I look back and wonder to myself, "Where did those years go?"  Now that I'm on this side of 60, I realize I don't have as many years ahead of me as I've had behind me, and I want to savor every single day.  We don't get "do-overs" in life.  I wish that was something we were keenly aware of in our 20s.  Unfortunately, mortality doesn't loom large when you are 20-something and you think you've got the world by the tail. LOL  I guess that's the way life is supposed to be.  I often think about the song , "Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen)" by Baz Luhrmann.  There is so much sage advice in that song and it's so true.  It's the simplest things in your life that really do become the most important things to know.  We can get all the Master's degrees and PhDs we want to, but it's the trivial, seemingly unimportant things that will prove to be the most important things to learn and, sadly, the easiest things to ignore.  If you don't remember that song, or maybe never heard it, take the time to click the link and listen to it.  LISTEN to it.  Take it to heart.  Commit the points to memory, because I promise you -- they ARE important.  Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but one day you WILL look back and you'll wish you had "known" all those things were going to be so important to you.  Oh, and, seriously, wear sunscreenEverybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen).
