Still Crazy, But Wear Sunscreen Anyway!

Well, the last time I posted here, I had just turned 59.  I'm now 61 and I'm still just as fascinated with Paul Simon and his style of music as I've always been.  I actually clicked on one of my old links and with some navigating on his site (which is where the link leads), I managed to listen to a whole album (Still Crazy After All These Years) and, yes, I am still crazy after all these years! LOL

Much has happened in my life since I last logged in here, but I won't be detailing it in this post tonight.  We can deal with things a little at a time.  Most recently, my husband and I celebrated our 43rd wedding anniversary March 22nd.  Forty-three years may sound like a very long time, and in some respects, I suppose it is, but when you are sharing those years with your best friend, they pass far too quickly.  As young 20-somethings, we don't have any idea how precious each day is.  Now that I've reached what are often referred to as "golden years" I look back and wonder to myself, "Where did those years go?"  Now that I'm on this side of 60, I realize I don't have as many years ahead of me as I've had behind me, and I want to savor every single day.  We don't get "do-overs" in life.  I wish that was something we were keenly aware of in our 20s.  Unfortunately, mortality doesn't loom large when you are 20-something and you think you've got the world by the tail. LOL  I guess that's the way life is supposed to be.  I often think about the song , "Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen)" by Baz Luhrmann.  There is so much sage advice in that song and it's so true.  It's the simplest things in your life that really do become the most important things to know.  We can get all the Master's degrees and PhDs we want to, but it's the trivial, seemingly unimportant things that will prove to be the most important things to learn and, sadly, the easiest things to ignore.  If you don't remember that song, or maybe never heard it, take the time to click the link and listen to it.  LISTEN to it.  Take it to heart.  Commit the points to memory, because I promise you -- they ARE important.  Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but one day you WILL look back and you'll wish you had "known" all those things were going to be so important to you.  Oh, and, seriously, wear sunscreenEverybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen).

It's my Birthday!

Let's hear it out there for birthdays!!! Yaaaayyyyyy!!!!! Okay, enough with the frivolity. LOL Seriously, I really stopped "celebrating" birthdays a while back. Mostly, now they just come and linger a day and go. No fanfare. No special recognition. Oh, that doesn't mean my family doesn't remember or doesn't make me feel special. They most certainly do. It's just that I no longer find birthdays all that appealing in the excitement sense. I guess it's something that happens when you reach my age (59), but it's kinda sad really. I mean, one day out of the year that is our "official" day ought to be recognized with some pizzazz, shouldn't it? But, alas, it's business as usual today, just like any other Monday in the year, and I'm not really all that verklempt about it. LOL But, in honor of my birthday, I looked online and found something that really makes me happy - really makes me smile. The post below this is of a video clip from the show, Dinosaurs, in which Baby delivers his famous tag line, "Not the mama!!" That always made me laugh with glee when we watched that show...it still does. :')

One of my 90s favorites

Found a clip online from one of my favorite shows, "Dionsaurs", featuring my favorite character, "Baby". Just had to share.

Still Crazy After All These Years

Paul Simon is probably my favorite musician of all time. I know...I know what you're thinking. Over the Beatles??? Over Elvis??? Over Kate Smith??? Okay, maybe you're NOT thinking Kate Smith!! *G* But, I digress...The Beatles - as a group - is probably my favorite,well...group! Elvis - he was before my time, when he started out and, while I learned to enjoy some of his music, I just never got 'into' the whole Elvis fan frenzy. But Paul Simon...that man KNOWS how to make music!!!!

Was just doing a search to find out if Paul Simon is on Twitter, with a Verified Account. Came up empty-handed, but I did stumble upon a video link to one of my all time favorite Paul Simon songs: You Can Call Me Al. It's such a lighthearted, upbeat song and the craziness of Chevy Chase in the video just adds to the fun, for me. Just wanted to share this here, in my very own space, for all time. :^)

So, back to my search, which is the reason for this post in the first place. If you find a Verified Account on Twitter for Paul Simon, please, by all means, point me in the right direction. I will be eternally in your debt.

WELL!!!!! Imagine my surprise when I clicked on the link and found the following:

"This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by WMG." How sad for me; how sad for everyone. It's not like I don't already have the music on tape and DVD in my home. I just wanted to have the video on my blog because I admire Paul Simon so much and have enjoyed his music since I was a young girl. *sigh* :^(

Sooooo....things aren't ALL bad! I found a different video on the same site (Paul Simon's OFFICIAL site, I might add), which, coincidentally turned out to be the 1992 version of the title of my blog post today. Ladies and Gents...herewith, I present Still Crazy After All These Years!! Please...ENJOY! :^)

The easiest Easter eggs EVER!!

I just had to blog this to share this little tidbit of information I found. It is truly the easiest way to "dye" Easter eggs with no muss and no fuss! I'm crediting Martha Stewart because that's who was credited on the link I'm posting, but I don't know if the idea originated with her or not. Suffice it to say, it's a GREAT idea and I wish I had known about this when my daughter was small. Unfortunately, it's too late to use this idea for this Easter (this being Easter Sunday), but next Easter, this is the way I'm going!

This method calls for "dyeing" the eggs with squares cut from silk ties or blouses or scarves that you can buy at a flea market or yard sale on the cheap. You may also have some old ties of dad's lying around which will be replaced with new ties on Father's Day, upcoming. LOL

Enjoy!
